A client who returns for a refresh rather than a fresh install is the most profitable client in the studio โ she already trusts you, she needs fewer hours, and she needs less new material. Most salons never put a price on that appointment because it grew out of a favour.
1. What a Refresh Actually Contains
Takedown, detangling, clarifying, conditioning, inspection and partial reinstallation. Even at a modest pace that is a substantial block of chair time, and it consumes real consumables. Cost it as a service line, separately from retightening.
2. Three Revenue Positions
- Full refresh: takedown plus reinstall of the original material with a top-up of new bulk at the root.
- Partial replacement: swap only the strands that failed inspection, priced per strand.
- Inspection only: a short paid assessment that ends in a written recommendation โ the gateway to either of the above.
3. Say No When the Material Is Finished
Reinstalling hair that has lost its cuticle integrity transfers the failure into your next appointment. A simple inspection threshold, agreed with the client in advance, protects the relationship better than saving her money on a reinstall that will not hold.
