Bundle sets are usually bought on price per pack and judged on how they look on the mannequin. Neither tells you what a stylist needs to know: how many installations the set supports, how the curl behaves after two washes, and whether the pattern still matches the client's own hair at week six.
1. Compare Installs, Not Packs
A six-piece set is a service input. Divide set price by the number of installations it supports at your typical density, and you have a comparable unit. Funmi and Jerry curl sets often land in different price bands but converge on cost per installation because the pattern determines how much bulk fill the stylist needs alongside the bundles.
The variable that moves this most is whether the client's own hair is being blended. Where blending is heavy, a blended bulk fill does more work per dollar than an extra bundle, and the bundle count per head drops.
2. Pattern Behaviour After Washing
Jerry curl tends to relax and elongate with repeated washing unless it has been set well; Funmi curl holds a tighter, denser pattern but can feel heavier at the root. Both are acceptable — they serve different clients. What is not acceptable is discovering the behaviour after the client has left.
Run a two-wash test on a single bundle from each lot before you commit to a reorder. Wash with the regime your clients actually use, air dry, and compare pattern against the original. Bundles that lose definition in two washes will cost you a corrective appointment.
3. The Disclosure Question
"Human hair blend" is a category, not a specification. Blended bundles with a synthetic component can perform well and cost less, but they behave differently under heat and they are not appropriate for every client. If a listing does not state the ratio, ask for it in writing, and test heat tolerance on a single weft before you install it on a paying client.
4. Reorder Discipline
Keep one lot reference per pattern and reorder against the lot, not the listing. Curl definition varies between lots even from the same workshop, and a client who books a repeat install expects the same pattern. Photograph each lot on arrival against a neutral background and file it with the order number — it takes a minute and settles most disputes.
The Bundle Comparison Kit
Funmi curly six-piece bundles, Jerry curly mixed-length bundles, and a 4A-4C blended bulk for testing how each pattern behaves when combined with bulk fill.
